Emergency situation in Calhoun County as pipeline ruptures west of Hampton

According to an alert out of Calhoun County, a pipeline has ruptured west of Hampton Thursday evening, September 23, 2021.

“West side of Hampton needs to shelter in place West of highway 167,” reads the alert. “The east side of Hampton needs to evacuate to the shelter at Hampton High School east of highway 167,” it continues.

Residents in the Hampton vicinity are urged to leave their windows closed and not to use any outside air.

Saline River Chronicle is monitoring the situation and will post updates of any further details released.

Thursday, September 23, 2021 10:58 p.m. CST Update:

The Arkansas Department of Transportation reports that Highway 278 from Bradley 9 Road in Banks to 12th Street in Harrell is closed due to the gas leak resulting in evacuations in Calhoun County. All lanes are temporarily closed. The detour route is: From Banks take Highway 275 to Tinsman, then take Highway 274 back into Hampton. From Hampton take Highway 274 to Tinsman then take Highway 275 back into Hampton.
