Curtis was the last surviving founding member of the Denton Deer Camp established in 1949. He hunted every first day of the season from 1949 to 2019. He loved hunting, fishing and trapping. Turkey hunting was his favorite sport. He taught his “sidekick” to like it too. Curtis killed his last turkey when he was 91.

Curtis taught his children and grandchildren a love and respect for the woods and wildlife. He enjoyed teaching everyone who wanted to learn, how to hunt or how to manage a forest. And he taught many.

He was a Christian and he loved Wagnon Church which he joined in the 1950s and remained a member for his lifetime. He felt it was very important for the moral fiber of our country to keep the small churches alive.
