UAM falls short to #4 Harding

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team dropped its Week 8 match up to #4 Harding University Saturday. The UAM defense struggled to stop the Tigers when they made pushed down the field, ultimately losing the game 64-7.

Demilon Brown did everything in his power to give the Weevils a chance as he was just 17-for-29 with 186 yards. He was also the team’s top rusher with 26 yards.

C.J. Parham led UAM receivers with 8 receptions for 105 yards. LaCedric Smith also contributed to the offense with 3 receptions for 42 yards.

Defensively, the Weevils struggled to stop Harding’s powerhouse offense. Kaytron Allen lead the Weevils in tackles with six solo tackles and 1 more assisted tackle. Tahji Gilbert had a solid day as well recording three solo tackles and 4 assisted tackles.

In the first half, UAM struggled to get anything going offensively, totaling just 1 touchdown, 189 yards and 6 failed drives to soften the blow.

Harding kept UAM’s offense off the field for most of the second quarter rushing the ball 17 times for 68 yards. The Bisons’ run game also helped push across 23 points and HU took the lead into the break, 37-7.

At the start of the second half, Harding started with the ball and rushed 37 yards for their sixth touchdown on their first drive. UAM’s following drive amounted to just twenty-one plays and 84 yards, but turned over downs on incomplete passes.

The fourth turned out to be quite the same as Bisons went on to score two more touchdowns. UAM and HU combined for three drives and HU held on for the win, 64–7.

With the loss, Arkansas-Monticello falls to 4-4 overall and 4-4 in Great American Conference play. Harding improves to 7-1 and 7-1 in GAC Games.

The Weevils hit the road to face Harding in Durant, Oklahoma Saturday, Oct. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
