Four Hermitage juniors selected as delegates to Arkansas Girls State and Boys State

HERMITAGE, Ark. – Hermitage High School announced Wednesday, February 9, 2022 that Sayra Martinez, Grace Smith, Ricky Robinson, and John Robert Ellis will be representing the Hermits at Arkansas Boys State and Girls State as delegates.

The programs are an immersive experience in civics education designed for high school juniors. Since 1940, a week-long camp has been put on to help better teach the working of government for young men and women in Arkansas.

Sayra Martinez and Grace Smith, juniors at Hermitage High School, have been selected as Arkansas Girls State delegates for 2022. It is an honor for Sayra and Grace to be recommended and chosen as delegates to represent their family, school, and community. To qualify as a delegate, one must demonstrate leadership, character and honesty, scholarship, cooperativeness, and community participation/service.

Sayra is the daughter of Jose and Alicia Martinez. Grace is the daughter of Ryan Smith and Kelly Jackson. Girls State will be held May 29-June 1, 2022, at Harding University in Searcy.

John Robert Ellis and Ricky Robinson, juniors at Hermitage High School, have been selected as Arkansas Boys State delegates for 2022. High schools select delegates based upon the maturity the boys exhibit in the classroom, on the field, and throughout the community who are ready to shape the future of our state. It is an honor for John Robert and Ricky to be recommended and selected as delegates to represent their family, school, and community.

John Robert is the son of Chase and Rosalynda Ellis. Ricky is the son of Tony and Tabitha Robinson. Boys State will be held May 20-June 1, 2022, at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
