Bessie Lee Cooper, 1950-2022

Bessie Lee Cooper, 72, of Warren, died April 15, 2022. Born March 15, 1950, she was a daughter of the late Luther Thomas Warner and Geneva Ford Tolefree Lowe. She accepted Christ at an early age under Rev. M.T. Easter at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, she later joined St. James AME Church under the leadership of Rev. G. T. Blackmon both of Warren.

Bessie loved to cook and was known for her homemade banana pudding, pound cake, sweet potato pie and signature pineapple-coconut cake. She also had a love for flowers and enjoyed gardening.

She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Pine Lodge Nursing Home and a housekeeper at Wagnon Place. She later worked for Armstrong Flooring where she retired.

She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband, Andrew Cooper; siblings, Alice Weathers, Virgil Mae Lawson, Lula Jean Edwards, Lorine Crowell, Brenda Vance, Jimmy Tolefree, Calvin Lowe, Herman Lowe; best friends, Mattie Jackson and Ida Reese Hines.

She is survived by her children, Angelia Cooper-Alexander, Barbara Cooper-Perry (Billie), Anthony Cooper, Larry Cooper (Theresa); siblings, Eunice Beavers, Ollie Jackson, Deborah Lowe, Dorsey Fields, Pearline Edwards, Christine Brock, Genece Hardaway, Dorothy Sledge, Kathryn Butler, Mary Bell, Rickey Lowe, Silas Warner, John Warner, Leon Warner, Calvin Warner, Raymond Warner, Royce Warner; grandchildren, Jonathan Cooper, Deszarai Mitchell, Skidasha Mitchell, Dynaelia Deshazer; great grandchildren, Chase Hampton, Charlie Hampton, Kalani Henderson, Mkynlee Jackson, Alianna Jackson, Khyier Jackson, Alton Jackson Jr. Amelia Johnson, Jonathan Cooper Jr., Tayshawn Edwards; special friends, Charles Green, Vickie Green; special children, David Farmer, Tony Mathews, Sonya Patton Avery; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was April 23 at Greenville Baptist Church in Fordyce. Burial was in Greenville Cemetery, Fordyce. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.

    1. Angela I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My name is Robin and I use to live in Warren. Your mother is the only lady in the entire town that took me under her wing and treated me as her own. I just found out this moment and my heart is broken. She was my coworker and friend but more like the mother I wished for… She nursed me back to health at a time I had nobody…i loved, still love, and will always love Moma Bessie…she will never be forgotten. Hold your head up beautiful one…she’s definitely watching over you all. I love all of her children…prayers up love

  2. Bessie.was a one of a kind lady.she and I would talk for hrs when we would run into each other.mrs.Bessie would tell it like it is no sugar coating it!!!!I will always remember what you told me about life!!! Love always .charles& Vickie Green.!!!!!!!
