New Edinburg to host Independence Day Jamboree July 1

The organization Re-Newing-Edinburg met Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at the New Edinburg Community Center, discussing a variety of topics including a Fourth of July Jamboree planned for July 1.

Under old business, it was deemed the first event of the Keep Arkansas Beautiful spring program held on March 26 was a success. Motion was made by Roger McClellan, seconded by Larry Waldrop to hold another clean-up event on April 23 at 9:00 a.m. If the garden next to First Baptist Church is dry, sunflowers will be planted, and if not, the group will continue cleaning off the fence row at the community center. A motion was made by McClellan to purchase an electric fence charger, fertilizer, wire, clips and post for the sunflower patch. The motion was seconded by Shelia Towery. The cost of these items will be approximately $150.00. The motion passed.

The Easter Egg Hunt was rescheduled to Friday, April 15 due to possible bad weather on Saturday with approximately 75 kids attending. The event was deemed a success. Possible changes for next year would be to have larger eggs without small toys inside, more candy inside eggs, more eggs (1500 hid 2022), to hide more eggs in five and under section since that was the majority of kids attending, to extend the “hiding” area to the Veterans Park. Ideas discussed to expand the event next year included purchasing a snow cone machine, holding a cake walk, providing popcorn and juice packs and also holding the event on Saturday a week before Easter with a backup date of the day before Easter. The group expressed its thanks to the Fordyce radio station who publicized the event and to Emmaus Church for providing additional eggs.

Melody Spears informed the group that approximately 200 fish plates were sold at the fish fry held at the center in March. Everyone agreed the food was wonderful and the community enjoyed visiting with friends.

Patricia McClellan informed the group that Stacey Waltz has contacted her to see if this group would like to have a Fourth of July Jamboree on July 1 at the New Edinburg Community Center in conjunction with the Cleveland County Theater group. Motion was made by Roger McClellan, seconded by Melody Spears to host the Jamboree. After a brief discussion the motion passed. Once additional details are received the group will be informed.

The All-School Reunion will be held at the community center on July 9.
