New projects and plans discussed at Make Warren Shine meeting

Make Warren Shine reviewed pending projects at a meeting at Donald W. Reynolds YMCA on Tuesday morning.

It was announced that Nancy’s Boutique is getting ready to put up a new awning.

Flowers will be planted in pots downtown, with fewer flowers but bigger ones. A converted golf cart will be used along with a water tank. Volunteers are needed to water the flowers on a regular basis.

Anonymous donors have each given $100 to plant crepe myrtle trees near the courthouse. They will be placed in honor of the late Police Chief Tommy Dunaway, the late Mayor John Frazer and the late Dorothy Faye McKinstrey. Others wishing to give donations for trees may contact Balentine at 820-1636.

A $100,000 T-Mobile grant was not approved but the group agreed to make application for it again.

An Adopt-A-Spot letter campaign will begin with business owners urged to work on curb appeal.

Make Warren Shine will use its Facebook page to begin a Yard of the Month contest.

The group is always in need of more volunteers. Make Warren Shine will meet again at 10 a.m. May 17 at the YMCA.
