Billy Ray Morgan, 1953-2022

Billy Ray Morgan, 69, of New Edinburg, died April 28, 2022. Born April 10, 1953, he was a son of Polly Paskel and Johnny Morgan. He received his education at Bradley County High School.

He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Clara Dupree on May 31, 1975. To this union, four beautiful daughters were born. They have celebrated 46 years of marriage.

He accepted Christ as Lord and Saviour under the leadership of the late Rev. Frank Bradley and united with Greenland Baptist Church. He took on the role of carpenter and caretaker of the church. He put his
heart and soul into his work, later becoming the 1st Gentleman of Greenland. He retired from Potlatch Corporation after 46 years, where he performed several different jobs. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry work and joking with friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers, William, Jimmy, Charles, A.J., Milton, Johnny Bob; 2 sisters, Margaret and Rebecca.

He is survived by his wife, Elder Clara Morgan of New Edinburg; daughters, Latonya Jackson (Chris), Coretta Gaines (Undra) both of New Edinburg, Samantha Mitchell (Jason) of Warren, Pamela Hughey (Brandon) of Camden; siblings, Polly Ann Cox (Jerry), Eva Vaughn (George), Linda Strong Harris (John), Annie Alexander, Patricia Hamilton, Patrick White (Mary), Elder Nathanell White (Henretta); 12 grandchildren; 1 great grand; 3 special friends, Terry Golden, Phil Tatum, Ivory Joe Purifoy; 1 godson, Ray Broughton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held May 7 at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Warren with Presiding Elder Kent J. Broughton officiating and Rev. Henry Cox pastor. Burial was in Piney Grove Cemetery in New Edinburg.
