The Rotary Club of Warren met Tuesday, Aug. 16 for its weekly meeting inside the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church. Rotarian Bob Milton presented the program and continued his annual tradition of having Warren High School Head Football Coach Bo Hembree speak about the upcoming season. Coach Hembree began by mentioning the Junior Jacks scrimmaged at Little Rock Central Monday night and came away with a 12-0 win after a 30-minute lightning delay. He spoke briefly about last season’s team and some of the players they will miss before he transitioned into talking about the 2022 squad, which begins play with a scrimmage at home against Little Rock Central Thursday night at 7 p.m. The regular season begins Aug. 26 with a home game against Stuttgart. Coach Hembree stated the Lumberjacks have 11 seniors, most of which will have big roles on this year’s team and said they have 42 players on the roster, which is the most in around 15 years. He believes the defense will be the strength of the team and is ahead of the offense at this juncture. However, he’s excited about what the offense will become as the season goes along and is excited about some younger players on that side of the ball. The team also has three-year letterwinners returning at kicker and punter. Coach Hembree briefly spoke about the conference and how unique it is to have a nine-team conference instead of eight as former conference foe McGehee was added but no teams left the league. The Lumberjacks will play eight games in the 8-4A and only two non-conference contests and Coach Hembree also explained that they had to redraw the league schedule which is why the Lumberjacks are making some of the same trips two years in a row and hosting some of the same teams for two years in a row. He concluded the presentation by answering a few questions from the group.
