County Judge says he hopes bell tower is close to completion

Judge Klay McKinney told members of the Bradley County Quorum Court during their Monday evening, November 21 monthly meeting that he hopes the mounting of the repaired bell tower to the top of the Courthouse is very close. He told the Justices that work inside the old flu system is underway and he is very hopeful the project can be substantially completed soon. He went on to say the County got some additional funding from the Governor’s emergency fund are now within around $17,000.00 of having the cost covered.

Seven of the nine quorum court members were present for the meeting. The Court approved the minutes of the last meeting and all regular reports.

Judge McKinney showed the Court members a sample of a new compressed gravel product that is being tested on gravel roads that provide a very hard surface that cuts down on dust. He stated it could cut down on the amount of money spent for road grading.

The Judge also reported that the County Judge’s and Sheriff’s Associations are urging the Arkansas General Assembly to use surplus funds to increase County turnback funds.

The Quorum Court then voted to approve a $450.00 bonus for all full-time County employees and part-time Deputy Sheriffs. The final 2023 budget should be ready for action in the December meeting. The vote for the bonus was 7-0 in favor.

The Sheriff’s Office reported the following for October 2022:

  • 8 transports
  • 804 miles to other counties
  • 549 miles to ADC
  • 1353 total miles transporting prisoners
  • served 78 papers
  • issue 16 citations
  • currently have 27 county inmates incarcerated
  • one inmate on ankle monitor

Prior to the regular Quorum Court meeting, the Justices met as the levying court and set the following millage rates to be levied for 2022, to be payable in 2023:

  • County General-5 real estate and 5 personal
  • County Road-3 real estate and 3 personal
  • Library-1 real estate and 1 personal
  • Hospital Maintenance-.4 real estate and .4 personal
  • Warren City-5 real estate and 5 personal
  • Hermitage City-5 real estate and 5 personal
  • Banks City-1.40 real estate and 1.40 personal
  • Warren School District No. 1-41.50 real estate and 41.50 personal
  • Hermitage School District No. 12-41.50 real estate and 41.50 personal
  • New Edinburg School District No. 5-38.10 real estate and 38.10 personal
  • Improvement District No. 1-No millage collected
