Maxine Bowman Yates, age 95, while residing at Woodhaven Village Assisted Living facility in Conroe, Texas, passed peacefully into Heaven in the loving arms of Jesus on May 21, 2022. She was born on August 23, 1926 in Warren, Arkansas, to Casper and Hattie (Castleberry) Bowman. She was a graduate of Warren High School in 1946.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward S. Yates, to whom she was married 65 years, and by their daughter, Sarah Yates. She was also was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Micheal and Sonya Yates, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, her daughter and son-in-law, Candace and Dudley McDaniel, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and her daughter, Barbara Yates, of Montgomery, Texas. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Justin Yates, Lauren Yates, Kaye McDaniel, and Hunter McDaniel (and wife, Lauren McDaniel), two great grandchildren, Duncan and Sophie McDaniel. She is also survived by her sister, Jerrye Canto of Warren, Arkansas.
After departing Warren for Little Rock in 1946, where she married Edward in 1947, their work lives involved living in 10 states during her lifetime. She worked in a variety of roles across a diverse range of industries, including bookkeeping/accounting for a Little Rock-based retailer, a manufacturer of military communication systems, a major contractor overseeing missile launch operations at Cape Canaveral, a high school dean’s office, and more.
She was a loving, devoted wife and mother, who enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing bridge, and reading. She enjoyed watching golf tournaments, especially those in which Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player were competing, and loved the Arkansas Razorbacks and Frank Broyles. She always greeted everyone she met with her sweet, loving smile and easy going nature. One of her most favorite sayings was “Jesus will take care of it” whenever presented with anything life would throw at her, and He always did “take care of it.”
The family extends its heartfelt appreciation for the loving care and support provided by the care and hospice teams at Woodhaven Village in Conroe, Texas.
A graveside ceremony will be held later this year in Bradley County, Arkansas.
