MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team closed out a doubleheader at Steelman Field House on Tuesday. The Blossoms played just six sets on the day, taking down Mississippi University for Women 3-0 in the first match, and defeating Lane College 3-0 in the second.
UAM closed out the day with a 9-9 record on the season and a 3-2 record in GAC play.
Match 1
In the first match of the day, the Blossoms took on the Owls of the Mississippi University for Women. The Blossoms outscored the Owls 53 points to 17 throughout the match. UAM would win all three sets in the matching, taking a 25-12 win in set one, a 25-10 victory in set two, and a 25-14 performance in the third. The win from UAM was among the most dominant of the season.
Holliday Ellis led the Blossoms in kills with 11.
Mia Smalls contributed 27 assists in the match.
Defensively, the Blossoms were led by Stasha Adams, who had 11 digs.
Match 2
In the second match of the day UAM battled Lane College, taking down the Dragons in three sets.
The Blossoms were the first team to score, taking a 5-1 lead to begin the first set. Jasmine Welton and Camryn McGough proved to be a dominant duo for a majority of the set, bringing down multiple kills each throughout it’s entirety. Following a last minute effort from the Dragons, the Blossoms would score the final two points of the set, taking the win 25-15.
Set two began a little more balanced. UAM was once again the first team on the board, but Lane held their own as the set continued. With a 7-6 lead, the Blossoms began making their move, taking two 4-0 runs, followed by a handful of back-to-back points to increase their lead to 19-10. A third four point stretch for Monticello would eventually give them a second 25-15 win.
The third and final set seemed to be an even more balanced match-up than set two. Both teams were unable to pull ahead in the first half of the match as the score settled at 12-11 with the Blossoms on top. A wave of offensive power found the home team as they strung together multiple points, taking the set 25-16, and the match 3-0.
Offensively, Jasmine Welton led the Blossoms in kills with 14. Camryn McGough followed up with 10 of her own.
Kalin Duncan once led the team in the assist category for game two, dishing out 21. Mia Smalls put up 13 of her own.
On defense, Jasmine Welton tallied 10 digs to lead the team.

UAM returns to the court on Thursday, September 3 when they travel to Weatherford, Oklahoma to take on the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
