The Rotary Club of Warren met Tuesday, Oct. 18 at noon for its weekly meeting at First United Methodist Church. The group heard from Warren Junior Rotarian Bryleigh Bickers to begin the program and will hear from Cristal Castillo next week. Dennen Cuthbertson, President of the Warren Rotary Club, then introduced Bill Fish, who is currently serving as the District Governor for Rotary District 6170. District 6170 encompasses clubs across a large portion of Arkansas from the western border of the state all the way across to the southeastern corner of the state.

Some of the towns that have clubs in this district include Russellville, Conway, Ashdown, Nashville, Bryant, Arkadelphia, and Camden along with towns closer to Warren such as Pine Bluff, Monticello, Fordyce, Dermott, and Crossett. The District Governor schedules a visit with each Rotary Club in his district and met with the board members prior to the regular meeting. Mr. Fish spoke about a number of topics concerning Rotary and the good Rotarians do, not just in Arkansas, but around the world. He spoke about Rotary International’s effort to eradicate polio, which is getting closer and closer to happening each year. The Rotary Foundation has received four stars from Charity Navigator for the 14th year in a row which, the District Governor explained, means you can give with confidence to the Rotary Foundation and know that your money is doing good around the world. District 6170 also gave money to the Kentucky flood victims and contributed funds to the Jackson, Mississippi water crisis. Our district is also looking to donate to the most recent hurricane victims as well.

Mr. Fish also touched on the current Rotary International President Jennifer Jones, who hails from Canada and is the first female president in Rotary International history. Fish also explained some of her initiatives and told the club about her slogan “Imagine Rotary” and what the logo for it means. Fish concluded by talking about some of his goals for the district and also touched on some of the goals for the Rotary Club of Warren.
