UAM celebrates homecoming week

MONTICELLO, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello held its 2022 Homecoming Week from October 3 to October 8.

On October 6, during the UAM Sports Hall of Fame Banquet, five individuals were recognized. Becca Tipton Greenwood (softball), Derylton Hill (basketball), Ricky Owens (baseball) and Sarah Hayslip Santo (softball) were inducted into the UAM Sports Hall of Fame. Jeremy Woodall received the 2022 UAM Spirit Award.

On October 7, UAM Alumni & Friends hosted a reception for the annual alumni award winners. Fredrick W. Lilly II was the recipient the Young Alumni Rising Star Award. Alumni Achievement and Merit recipients for 2022 included Micah Beard, Dr. Rickey Booker, Jr., Dr. Ana M. Hunt, Brad Koen, George “Bubba” Miles, Jr. and R. Mark Owen. Wayne L. Owen, Jr. was the recipient of the 2022 Continuing the Connection Award.

On October 8, the UAM African-American Alumni Association held a reunion. During the event, the alumni association presented Terry Alexander, Lou Ella James Lambert and Tommy Morrison with the UAM African-American Alumni Association Trailblazer distinction. Dr. Christopher Allen, Dale Gilbert, Brittney Harding, Fredrick W. Lilly II, Curtis Shack and Larry White were named the 2022 UAM African-American Alumni Elites.

On October 8, during the Homecoming Coronation Ceremony, Becca Nichols, a senior exercise science major from Monticello, was crowned the 2022 Homecoming Queen. The eleven other members of the 2022 Homecoming Court included Riley Aud, a junior mathematics major and computer information systems major from Woodlawn; Rayvin Callaway, a junior animal science major and plant and soil science major from Star City; Katelyn Harris, a junior computer information systems major and education major from Monticello; Colleen Kilgore, a senior animal science major from Atlanta, Texas; Christa Lannon, a senior business administration major from Farmersville, Texas; Grace Lee, a senior accounting major and finance major from Monticello; Anna Beth Roberts, a junior plant and soil science major from Rison; Jaye Michelle Saunders, a senior nursing major from Warren; Chiara Sturaro, a junior business administration major from Venice, Italy; Anna Marie Ward, a senior communications major from Texarkana, Texas; and Anna Wynn, a senior accounting major from Star City.

On October 8, prior to the Homecoming football game against the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers, the UAM community enjoyed a tailgate party and parade. During the Homecoming game, fans cheered on Boll Weevils Football, UAM Cheer and the UAM “Pride of Southeast Arkansas” Marching Band.
