Elijah Owen Ware, 1942-2022

Elijah Owen Ware, 80, of Harrell, died November 23, 2022. Born February 14, 1942, he was the 5th child born to the late Jessie and Ossie Ware.

He began driving for Blann Trucking Company in 1979. His regular trucking run at that time was to Alabama. He received a gold watch from Bill Blann in 2015 for driving more that 1,200,000 miles
for the trucking company without getting a scratch on the fender. Mr. Blann said, “He’s driven more miles without an accident than anyone who’s ever driven for me.”

He loved driving his 18-wheel Big Rig, his horse, Charlie, watching westerns on tv, watching the vegetables in his garden grow and dearly loved his kids and grandkids.

He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Mose Ware, Lois Moss, Amie Wiley; a daughter, Evelyn Leonard; a son, Gerald Ware.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Ruth Ware; children, Malik Ware of Arkadelphia, Kevin Ware (Jennifer) of Crossett, Jeffery Ware (Tasha) of Wilmar, Gwen Ware Moore, Phyllis Ware, Bernita Ware, Jacquelyn Preston (Bobby) all of Harrell; two daughters of the heart Netra Miller of Jonesboro, Ashley Pentecost (Michael) of Pordenone, Italy; siblings, Woody Ware (Sharon) of Mesquite, TX., Celestine Junior of Milwaukee, WI., Jessie Mae
Fitz of Portland, OR., Georgia Dismute (Billy), Glenda Burns (Joe) both of Harrell, Vivis Curly, Loretta Lee of Hampton; 25 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held December 3 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Harrell. Burial was in St. Paul Community Cemetery in Hampton. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
