Sharon Ann Jones Henderson, 1948-2023

Sharon Ann Jones Henderson, 74, of Wilmar, passed away, December 31, 2022. Born June 23, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Otto and Velma Jones. Ann accepted Christ at an early age joining Shady Grove AME Church, where she remained a member until moving from the area.

Ann’s education began at the Wilmar Training School and Drew High School, Monticello, AR. She was one of the first Black students to graduate from Wilmar High School. She went on to attend the Arkansas A & M College at Monticello.

After moving to Chicago, IL., she met and married her husband, Willie Lee Henderson. While in Chicago, she joined Central Baptist Church. They later moved to Milwaukee, WI., joining Trinity Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Harold Turner of Stephens, AR. Upon moving back to her hometown of Wilmar, AR., Ann joined Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and served as Assistant Choir Director.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Cedric Renault Jones; siblings, Eddie Davis, Lamar Jones, Myrtle King, Mildred Bass, Margaret Ragland and Marie Jones.

She is survived by her siblings, Joe Jones (Angela), Georgia Hammock, Eunice Shorter all of Wilmar, Ottis Jones (Brenda) of Kansas City, KS., Bobbie Webb of Kansas City, MO.; sister-in-law, Elmarie Jones of Wilmar; godchildren, Ryan Jones (Cortina), Rhonda Jones Garner, Vanessa Liederback, Vanesha Phillip, Eric Henderson, Zaiden Miller; special friends, Massie Eison, Betty Edwards, Sherman Ingram, Peggy Preddy; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held January 8 at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Wilmar with Rev. Andrew Bess pastor and Presiding Elder James R. Hooper eulogist. Burial was in Turner Hill Cemetery, Wilmar. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
