Solid defensive game, but Lady Jack bats can’t get going in loss to Monticello

WARREN, Ark. – The softball version of Saline River Shootout part one took place Tuesday, March 7 as the Warren Lady Lumberjacks played host to the Lady Billies of Monticello.

In the top of the first inning the Billies used two base-on-balls and a single to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Jacks went three-up and three down in the bottom of the inning.

Monticello went 1-2-3 in the top of second. Unfortunately, the Lady Jacks went down quietly in the bottom of the inning.

Monticello came out in the top of the third and got the first two batters on with no outs. They were able to pick up three runs in the inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Lady Jack’s bats were still silent.

Using a solid defense and timely pitching, the Lady Jacks held Monticello scoreless in the top of the fourth. Warren once again went 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth the Lady Billies were able to scrap out two runs to take a 7-0 lead. The Lady Jack bats remained silent.

In the top of the sixth inning the Lady Jacks held Monticello scoreless. Warren’s Jolie Trussell broke up Monticello’s pitcher Alaina Lyles perfect game with a lead off walk to start the inning. Warren left her stranded and the score remained 7-0. Trussell was named the Lady Jack Player of the Game.

Monticello scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning to give us the final of 13-0 Lady Billies.

Despite the score, the Lady Jacks played their best game defensively of the year. They are scheduled to travel to Hermitage on Thursday, March 11 to face the Lady Hermits.
