Colvin started by thanking Gaskin for providing a Christian school. He also noted that his father started Lighthouse Church but it was consumed by fire on Feb. 3, 2022. The church is now meeting in a temporary location but will be rebuilt on its original site.

He said after the fire, a large wooden cross was found intact. “That cross was under the rubble and that cross wasn’t burned,” he said. “We’re here today because we need the message of the cross.”

Bro. Henry Cox read Luke 23.

“If God has you here, he has a purpose for you,” Colvin said. “We don’t want to leave this life without knowing did I quit too soon. … No matter how young you are, no matter how old you are, God has a purpose in mind for you. It’s Friday … but Sunday is coming. God looks at the heart. I believe better days are coming.”

Raven Harris gave the blessing for the meal and Cox gave the closing prayer.
