BCMC emergency room nurse Steven Smith was named the hospital’s Employee of the Month for May

Steven’s nomination said: Steven is always positive and respectful to his team members. He can work well with anyone. He is welcoming to new members of the team. Steven always provides excellent care to all patients who come to the BCMC ER. Patients specifically ask for him and are disappointed when he is not present to take care of them. For example, I once had a patient who asked if Steven was there to provide care to them. I had to convince the individual that I would provide care for them in his absence. They seemed leery at the start but were positive towards me near the end of the visit. Steven is focused on his job and even when he had a family member who needed care, he continued to do his work until he was relieved from duty. He communicates any issues in a professional manner. Steven comes to work on time. He dresses appropriately. He is always willing to do extra if needed. I can’t imagine not having him present as he helps keep the ER running smoothly when he’s here. Additionally, Steven helps to stock and put away items that are out of place. He maintains a clean work environment and is an asset to the facility.
