Warren Street Committee examining most needed streets for repaving

WARREN, Ark. – The Warren City Council Street Committee met Monday, May 1, 2023 in the Warren Municipal Courtroom to tackle a number of street issues around the community.

Present were Chairmen Emily Moseley, Alderman Latanza Atkins, and Street Foreman Monty Hearnsberger. Not present was Alderman Joel Tolefree.

First on the agenda was a request from S&H Tactical, a store located to the south of Molly’s Diner. The owner requested that signs be placed in front of his shop stating parking for customers only. As part of his request he offered to pay for the signs. Some discussion was held, and a couple of concerns were raised by Committee members. They questioned what would be the effects later on of putting the signs up for one business, but then having more businesses ask for the same. After discussion, the Committee voted 2-0 to deny the request.

The remainder of the meeting dealt with the issue of street paving needs throughout town. A lengthy list that was developed by the Committee was presented and gone over, with Street Foreman Hearnsberger detailing to the Committee the top priorities.

After much discussion, the Committee asked Hearnsberger to figure up tonnage needed for the most dire Streets in each Ward and return with a recommendation. According to Hearnsberger the cost is expected to be about $400,000 to repave a mile and a half of street. He made note that he felt portions of Lyn, Maple, Pope, and Stepps Streets would be his top priority. He noted that Lyn is deteriorating daily, and it must be addressed.

The Committee adjourned. Hearnsberger will present his regular report to the full Council next Monday evening, May 8, 2023.
