Intermodal Board meeting discusses potential business and development opportunities

WARREN, Ark. – The Southeast Arkansas Intermodal Board convened on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, to discuss various matters related to the joint Bradley County, Warren, Drew County, and Monticello Intermodal property. During the meeting, several important topics were brought to the table, including potential business ventures and infrastructure development.

One of the key points of discussion was a prospective business that expressed interest in acquiring land at the intermodal site. The potential project, estimated to be worth $10,000,000, aimed to establish grain bins and a facility for producing chicken feed, along with an accompanying office space. Although the exact acreage required was still uncertain, this investment had the potential to create approximately 10 job opportunities for the local community.

In addition to the prospective business, board member Michael Efird of Drew County spoke about the potential for another large acreage project near the Intermodal site—an expansive solar farm spanning approximately 800 acres near the intermodal property.

During the meeting, it was reported that $12,500 from the Arkansas Department of Transportation was received.

Moreover, the attendees discussed the successful installation of a new railroad crossing in the area. However, their attention now shifted towards accessing the backside of this crossing. Recognizing the significance of this task, the two County Judges are collaborating on plans that would facilitate convenient access to the opposite side of the crossing.

  1. Solar farm, what a joke. More guvmint meddling. This intermodal has supposed to have brought business now for 20+ years. And to no avail. And, rest assured when it does, it will benefit Monticello and drew county. Warren and Bradley county will be left in the dust. Funny how it’s a joint effort but the facility is in Drew county and closer to Monticello than Warren. More slack jawed leadership. Don’t get me started on the industrial park and failed prospects over the years.

    1. Check out the numbers: how much it is purported to be worth versus how much money in the form of grants, in kind work, etc
With it being locatedvin Drew county, WHO will receive the most benefit, especially since the Drew ‘powers’ have cajoled the opportunity for the 4 la e to have a different starting location to extend fartjer through Drew county. Tell me where the equity is here????

  2. JOKE! to the people of Warren 20 plus years. Keep money here! Maybe somebody should have talked to Tractor Supply for one . They went to Fordyce and Sheridan. And contrary to what people think nobody can keep places like TS and other stores out if they want to come.Lets clean up Warren for a start and keep a positive attitude.
