Bradley County Economic Development Corporation Board hears from students that attended Boys and Girls State

WARREN, Ark. – The Bradley County Economic Development Corporation Board convened in a meeting on July 24, 2023.

The meeting commenced with the customary “Call to Order,” followed by a moment of reflection with a “Prayer” for guidance in making decisions that would benefit the community at large. The board then reviewed and approved the “Minutes of the April 24, 2023 Board Meeting” as there were no meetings held in May or June due to scheduling constraints.

Several guest speakers were invited to the meeting to offer valuable insights and updates. A notable presentation was the Legislative Update, which shed light on recent legislative changes and how they may impact the local economic landscape. Additionally, representatives from the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) provided an informative UAM Report from Dr. Peggy Doss, Chancellor of UAM and Warren native, highlighting potential collaboration opportunities between the educational institution and the county’s business community.

Particular attention was given to the youth of Warren High School during the meeting, with Landon Milton and Victoria O’Neil, two students from the school, making a presentation on their participation in Boys/Girls State. Boys State was held this year at UCA and Girls State at Harding. Their involvement in this civic education program was commended by the board for fostering leadership skills among the younger generation.

The board then shifted its focus to “Old Business,” revisiting ongoing projects and matters that required attention. Key topics discussed included a “Land Swap/Railroad Siding” project aimed at facilitating industrial development and streamlining transportation logistics.

Furthermore, the board examined a proposed new plat map that outlined potential areas for commercial and industrial development. The prospect report also provided an encouraging outlook on new business ventures expressing interest in investing in Bradley County.

Under new business a comprehensive tomato industry report was presented. The report opened up discussions on how to support and grow this agricultural sector, which could have a positive impact on the local economy and create more jobs for the community.
