Moses G. Williams, 1925-2023

Moses G. Williams, 97, of Jersey, passed away, July 16, 2023. Born July 24, 1925, he was a son of the late James and Eula Williams. He was a faithful Christian and a member of Palestine AME Church in Johnsville, serving as Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School teacher and a Steward.

Moses attended school in Vicks, AR.  He obtained a doctorate degree in Master Mechanic with many clock hours and started working in the fall of 1948 as a bus mechanic. He worked 57 years in Vicks, 19 years in Hermitage and 19 years in Warren before retiring. He went back to work a month later at Hermitage part-time for another 17 years. He also worked one week out of the year at Arkansas Tech in Russellville for 16 years, teaching the Arkansas State bus mechanic workshop. In 1971 he was the first black to be recruited to be the head mechanic of all the buses and vehicles at Warren School District. He retired in 2005.

He was a member of the Wishful Master of Blue Bell 360 in Jersey, he continued and achieved the thirty-third degree. He was also a member of the Farmers Association.

Moses was united in holy matrimony to Cleantha Hines on January 27, 1951. To this union two sons were born, Glenn and James. She preceded him in death 29 days before their 59th anniversary.

He enjoyed farming and sharing his crops. Moses was a talker, he loved telling others about the Lord and he was a very generous man.

He is survived by his sons, Glenn of El Dorado, James (Mary) of Chesapeake, VA.; grandchildren, Tashina Williams, NeKaShia Jenkins, Terrence Williams, Jicobi Williams, Jarriet Williams; sister-in-law, Jessie Mae Williams; special family member, Gwendolyn Williams; nine great-grandchildren, Elijah, Anijah, O’Brianna, Nahjai, Ta’Marriona, Jayden, Terrence Jr., Christian, JaNyla; one great-great-grandchild, Maison; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held July 22 at Palestine AME Church in Johnsville. Burial was in A T Cemetery, Jersey. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
