Legendary high school coach and educator Teodis Ingram announces retirement after 40 years of shaping young lives

LITTLE ROCK – Teodis Ingram, a revered figure in the world of education and sports in Arkansas, officially announced his retirement on Saturday, August 5, 2023. With an illustrious career spanning four decades, Coach Ingram has been a pivotal force in shaping the lives of numerous Bradley County students during his tenure at Hermitage High School in years gone by. Ingram spent much of the 1980s at Hermitage, but has gone on to coach, as well as serve in administrative positions in several school districts around the State.

Coach Ingram, fondly known as “Coach T” by many, left an indelible mark on the lives of countless students who passed through the hallways of Hermitage High School. As the former Hermitage Hermits Football Coach, he not only instilled the values of sportsmanship and teamwork but also nurtured a strong sense of discipline and dedication among his players.

Reflecting on his illustrious career, Coach Ingram humbly stated, “I never went to work.” His passion and commitment to his role as an educator and mentor were evident to all who knew him. He expressed deep gratitude to his family and friends for their unwavering support and patience throughout his career, acknowledging that their encouragement played a significant role in his success.

In his retirement announcement, Coach T offered a heartfelt acknowledgment to the Hermitage School District, which granted him his first coaching position straight out of college. “That was almost unheard of” at the time noted Ingram. He credited the district’s trust and support for launching his journey in education, leading him on a path of transforming young lives for the better.

Addressing his former players and students, Coach Ingram emphasized, “You were the best.” His genuine admiration for the individuals he taught and mentored showcased the impact he had on their lives, not just in athletics but also in their personal growth and development.

As he steps away from his role as an educator and coach, Coach T shared a prayer for the upcoming school year, hoping it would be the best ever. He urged everyone to prioritize safety and emphasized the importance of supporting one another, particularly children. He reminded the community that showing genuine care and concern for a child could lead to profound and positive outcomes.

“Students don’t care what you think if they think you don’t care,” Coach Ingram imparted this valuable piece of wisdom, highlighting the significance of building strong connections with students to foster a conducive learning environment.

His legacy will continue to reverberate through the lives of the many students he guided and inspired over the years. The impact of his work on the community of Hermitage, as well as in the other communities where he served, will be felt for generations to come, as his dedication to education and the development of young minds leaves an enduring legacy.
