Bennie Lindsey Taylor, 1940-2023

Bennie Lindsey Taylor, 83, formally of Warren, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home in League City, TX on Saturday, October 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  Bennie was born March 27, 1940, near Pansy, Arkansas. His family moved to Texas for work when he was 8 years old. After retiring, Bennie and his wife Melba, moved back to Arkansas and called Warren home for many years before returning to Texas to be closer to family. Bennie was proceeded in death by his parents Ben and Jimmie Ruth Taylor, brother Jimmy Taylor, son-in-law Eddie Blankenship, and grandson Eddie Blankenship, Jr.

Bennie spent most of his life living in League City. He was a graduate of Clear Creek High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army. When he came back home to League City, he met Melba Hopkins at the Dairy Dream. They married in 1963 and celebrated 60 years of marriage in June.

Bennie and Melba loved to travel, and you could usually find them at a campground somewhere. When he wasn’t sitting around a campfire, Ben was in front of the TV watching sports. He loved his Astros and Arkansas Razorbacks, but he would watch any sport that was playing from football to tennis. Bennie was loved by many for his kind heart and sweet demeanor, but his favorite people called him Papa. He was an amazing grandfather to his grandchildren and spent the last eleven years of his life coming out of retirement to watch his great-grandsons during the day. His boys loved Papa’s jokes, naps together on the couch, and his coke floats.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife Melba, daughters Casey Churchwell and Kim Taylor, son-in-law Kyle Churchwell, three granddaughters Meagan Guerrero, Morgan Potts (Jerod), and Madison Churchwell, six great-grandchildren Jackson Guerrero, Easton Guerrero, Hudson Guerrero, Murphy Potts, Maxine Potts, and Cheyenne Blankenship, brothers and sisters Jack and Angela Taylor, Sonny and Sue Miller, and Glenda Taylor, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

A private celebration of life is planned for November.
