Dollar General Market coming to former Piggly Wiggly building in Warren

If you’ve taken a drive down Martin Street in Warren over the past few weeks, you’ve undoubtedly noticed ongoing work at what is commonly referred to as “the old Piggly Wiggly building.” Perhaps you’ve even heard a few whispers about what might be in store for this location.

It now appears that a Dollar General Market is set to make its debut in Warren, and we can confirm this development after the installation of signage in the last day or so.

Dollar General Market is the grocery-focused branch of the Dollar General chain.

According to Business Insider, Dollar General manages approximately 19,000 stores across the United States, with 2,700 of these dedicated exclusively to providing fresh groceries. In Warren, there are presently two regular Dollar General stores, and numerous other locations in nearby communities.

So, what can residents of Bradley County anticipate when they visit this new Dollar General Market? Is it akin to the traditional Dollar General store? In part, yes, as they may carry some of the same items, but DG Markets stock fresh produce, meats, and other food items not typically found in their standard dollar stores. However, as per Business Insider, “Dollar General has stated that DG Markets are not intended to be equivalent to full-scale grocery stores.” Nevertheless, a YouTube video we discovered describes DG Market as a “smaller-scale grocery store.”

The same YouTube tour of a DG Market in North Huntington, Pennsylvania, recorded about a year ago showcased self-checkout facilities, although it remains uncertain whether the Warren location will offer this feature.

In recent weeks, rumors have been circulating around town as visible construction work has intensified at the new store. A multitude of renovations are underway, including roof repairs, the installation of side and back doors, as well as extensive interior improvements.

The nearest DG Market we could locate on Google Maps is situated in Redfield, Arkansas, to the north of Pine Bluff, although we cannot guarantee that it is the closest one. There is also one listed in Stuttgart.

We will keep you updated if we are able to gather more details. Any new details will be published in updates below.
