End of fiscal year, Meditech Go-Live among topics in October BCMC Board Meeting

WARREN, Ark. (10/26/23) – The Bradley County Medical Center Governing Board met Thursday, Oct. 26 in the hospital’s conference room for its monthly meeting with discussions centered around the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30 and the upcoming Meditech Go-Live date of Dec. 1 among the items covered.

Once the minutes for the previous board meeting were approved, BCMC Controller Matt Pace discussed volumes and financials. Volumes were up most in swing bed and all three areas of therapy (physical, occupational, and speech) over the last year. Gross patient revenue for the month was $3,528,002 while the net operating revenue was $2,035,693. The totals in gross patient revenue and net operating revenue for the year were $45,656,295 and $21,020,359, respectively. Sales tax revenue for the month of September was $112, 519.29 with $4,009,320.55 in the sales tax fund.

BCMC CEO/CFO Leslie Huitt touched on the fiscal year ending and what things look like going into the upcoming fiscal year. She is hopeful the go-live date of Dec. 1 with Meditech, BCMC’s new electronic medical records system (EMR), will happen. There is a meeting in a couple of weeks that will determine the status of the Meditech implementation, but Huitt is positive the hurdles left are ones that can be handled. Huitt spoke about Meditech’s Home Care solution being a positive compared to what the BCMC Home Health Department’s system looks like currently. She also briefly mentioned the hospital will use the payroll system within Meditech and had some recent breakthroughs with it.

Other items Huitt voiced were progress with facilities planning and the review of the hospital’s insurance provider. She said the review was helpful, but it doesn’t look like there are much savings to be had there so she recommends keeping the current provider. It does come up for renewal in January and she said if something changes drastically in the rates, she will alert the board.

CNO Jamie Wolfe’s report echoed Huitt’s in the focus on Meditech and training for staff in preparation of Dec. 1. He also spoke about the increase in swing bed days and the effort that’s been placed on keeping that up. Wolfe said the new general surgeon Dr. Sam Arnold is doing well and he has heard nothing but positives so far on him. He concluded his segment by talking about the importance of retaining staff and how good a job the hospital has done. BCMC only has one travel nurse in the organization currently.

Policy manuals up for annual approval were from the Medical Office Systems (MOS), Risk Management, and Surgery departments. New or revised policies presented to the board concerned hand hygiene, tuberculosis, and cleaning of reusable trays and accessories in surgery. All were approved by the board.

Medical staff recommendations were approved, and the board went into executive session to conclude the meeting.
