Top playoff seed locked up as Jacks win big over the Central Cougars

WEST HELENA, Ark. – In a week nine matchup in West Helena, the Warren Lumberjacks asserted their dominance with an exceptional performance, trouncing the Central Cougars with an impressive 42-0 victory on Friday, October 27, 2023.

Warren entered the game as the undefeated powerhouse, holding a pristine 6-0 record in conference play. Central, on the other hand, struggled at 0-6, seeking a turnaround that didn’t materialize against the mighty Lumberjacks.

The game got underway with an immediate impact play courtesy of Warren’s lightning bolt, Kam Davis. He hauled the opening kickoff back 80 yards for a touchdown. The extra point attempt failed due to a snap and hold issue, leaving the score at 6-0 in favor of Warren with 11:38 left in the first quarter.

After a quick turnover on downs by Central, the Lumberjacks continued to assert their dominance, with quarterback Jackson Denton connecting with Neon’dre Thomas for a 22-yard touchdown pass over the middle. A successful 2-point conversion swiftly followed, extending Warren’s lead to 14-0 at the 10:38 mark.

Warren’s defense got in on the scoring on the next Central possession. Jakendric Burks seized a fumble, dashing 16 yards for a touchdown. With the successful extra point, the Lumberjacks surged to a commanding 21-0 lead over Central with a whopping 10:21 still to go in the first quarter.

The onslaught persisted as Warren’s second on the depth-chart QB Cam Burks executed a quarterback draw, landing Warren at the 3-yard line. Burks then muscled through Central’s defense, securing a 3-yard touchdown blast at the 7:24 mark. The ensuing extra point further widened the gap, setting the score at 28-0.

The first quarter fireworks continued with a Jackson Denton 50-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Jordan with 3:57 remaining in the opening quarter. Followed by another successful extra point by Warren kicker Alann Juarez, the lead was extended to 35-0. Not content with their lead, Burks connected with Miller for a 20-yard pass over the middle with 1:24 to go in the first, further solidifying Warren’s dominance with a 42-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter, however, remained scoreless, leading to a halftime break with the Lumberjacks comfortably in the lead. The game went quiet into the fourth.

In the final period of play, Warren’s David Jordan, Jr. and Aaron Davis each recorded an interception. These defensive plays cemented the Lumberjacks’ shutout victory, finishing the game with a commanding 42-0 win over the Central Cougars.

With this resounding victory, the Warren Lumberjacks moved to a pristine 7-0 in the 8-4A Conference and a perfect 9-0 overall. The win secured the first seed out of the Conference 8-4A, setting the stage for a promising journey into the 4A State Playoffs in just a couple of weeks time.
