Final: Warren 42-12 Trumann

Five Lumberjacks score in impressive round one 4A State Playoff victory

WARREN, Ark. – Notching their 11th win of the season to remain undefeated, the Warren Lumberjacks advanced to the second round of the 4A State Playoffs after defeating the Trumann Wildcats 42-12 on Friday night under the lights at Jim Hurley, Jr. Stadium in Warren.

Warren came into the ballgame with a perfect 10-0 regular season record and the 8-4A championship under their belts. Their opponent, the Trumann Wildcats, entered the game as the 5th seed from the 3-4A with a 5-5 overall record.

First Quarter Action

Warren wasted little time in putting the first points on the board in the early minutes. Their opening drive covered an impressive 62 yards, culminating in a touchdown run by Tramond Miller with 9:51 remaining in the quarter. The play, a well-executed speed sweep left, capped of the impressive drive. Alann Juarez’s successful extra point gave Warren an early 7-0 lead.

Trumann’s offense gave Warren a few fits on their following drive. The Wildcats went deep into Lumberjack territory, threatening to brings the score back level. However, their drive stalled around the 10-yard line. They turned the ball over on downs.

Despite Warren’s subsequent possession flipping the field, an interception in the red zone prevented the orange and black from extending their lead minutes later. The first quarter concluded with Warren leading 7-0.

Warren Extends Lead in Second Quarter

As the second quarter unfolded, Trumann found some success in the passing game, but Warren’s defensive standouts, JD Tillman and Jordyn Ingram, proved to be formidable obstacles. With under five minutes left in the half, the Wildcats managed to reach the Warren 17-yard line, but their drive came to an abrupt halt.

With just 52 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Warren added to their lead with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Jackson Denton to Neon’dre Thomas on a perfectly executed corner route. Juarez’s extra point doubled Warren’s lead to 14-0 over Trumann.

The Wildcats threw two quick incompletions and took a quarterback scramble out of bounds on their next possession, but burned less than 30 seconds off the clock, forcing them to punt back to Warren with time to spare before the half. The punt was muffed, but regained by Warren with just 18.3 seconds remaining at their own 46-yard line.

After an incompletion on first down, Warren setup out of the shotgun with tripps left. Denton heaved a deep ball downfield in the vicinity of Thomas around the 25-yard line. Thomas went high to bring in the catch. Four Trumann defenders closed in, but Thomas turned and broke free to the endzone for a 54-yard game-changing touchdown. After Juareze’s extra point, Warren’s lead was extended to 21-0 at the halftime whistle.

Third Quarter Dominance

The third quarter unfolded as a showcase of Warren’s dominance on both sides of the ball. Juarez continued his excellent run-of-form on kickoffs, pinning the Wildcats at their own 20 following a touchback. Trumann’s opening drive was stifled by a great tackle from Warren’s Ingram on second down. The drive would go on to result in a punt. Warren capitalized on the defensive stop, with Treylon Jackson scoring a 21-yard touchdown to extend the Jack lead to 28-0.

Trumann’s struggles continued as they were forced to punt on the next drive. Antonio Jordan returned the punt for a touchdown, sprinting 53 yards down the sideline with 6:08 left in the third quarter. Warren’s lead ballooned to 35-0 as the sportsmanship rule went into effect, and the clock began to run continuously.

However, Warren wasn’t finished. With 1:55 remaining in the third quarter, Cam Burks executed an 8-yard quarterback blast, and Miguel Mendoza’s successful extra point pushed Warren’s lead to an impressive 42-0.

Fourth Quarter Showcasing Future Talent

Entering the fourth quarter with the game securely in hand, Warren took the opportunity to introduce several young players. With 7:44 left on the clock, Trumann managed to get on the board with a 6-yard touchdown run, making the score 42-6. The Wildcats managed to add another touchdown very late in the game, bringing the final score to Warren 42, Trumann 12.

Looking Ahead

With the resounding victory, Warren earned the privilege of hosting Bauxite in the second round next Friday night, November 17. Bauxite, the 2nd seed from the 4-4A with an 8-3 overall record, secured their spot by defeating the 8-4A’s McGehee Owls 42-17 in the first round.
