First Quarter

The Warren Lumberjacks faced an early challenge as the Hamburg Lions initiated the game with a daring onside kick, executed by kicker Alberto Aguilar. Aguilar used the rabona technique, a soccer style kick where the kicking leg is crossed behind the back of the standing leg. Aguilar pulled off the incredibly difficult move to perfection and it paid off for the Lions. Hamburg recovered, marched downfield, and took the early advantage courtesy of a 3-yard rushing touchdown. Just a minute later the Lions doubled their lead after a Warren pass was intercepted and returned 55-yards for the second touchdown of the game.

Nevertheless, Warren swiftly retaliated, narrowing the gap with a touchdown pass from quarterback Jackson Denton to Antonio Jordan over the middle, concluding the first quarter at 14-7 in favor of Hamburg.

With 1:20 to go in the first period, Lumberjack Cam Burks picked off a Hamburg pass and returned it for a touchdown. The play would be called back due to a personal foul penalty. The penalty would keep the Jacks off the board for only a short time however.

Second Quarter

Continuing the drive following Burks’s interception, the Jacks punched it in from 10 yards out with 11:46 to go in the half. The play came from a Tramond Miller reverse. Juarez hit the extra point to make things all-square at 14-14.

With 6:43 remaining in the third, Cam Burks came up big once again for the orange and black. He picked off a pass at the Lion 49. That helped set up a Warren touchdown with 3:36 on the clock in the period as Jordan ran it in from 17 yards out. Juarez’s extra point made it 35-28 Warren.

Fourth Quarter
