Maxcine Thomas Steppes, 1941-2023

Maxcine Thomas Steppes, 82, of Warren, passed away October 27, 2023. Born July 3, 1941, she was a daughter of the late William and Vera Ingram Thomas. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, Warren.  After her season was over there, she became an active member of St. James AME Church, Warren, where she served on the Usher Board until her health began to fail.

Maxcine attended Bradley County High School. She obtained employment at Autum Hill Nursing Home and Bradley County Medical Center in the dietary department, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved life and people; she was loved by all and will be truly missed.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Dirrick Steppes Jr.; three brothers, her twin, Maxie Thomas, Jerry Thomas and William Earl Thomas.

She is survived by her children, Iwanna Anderson of Flint, MI., Lisa Cross, Charlette Cross, Marilyn Steppes all of Warren, AR., Danny Cross of Las Vegas, NV., Shawn Cross (Norma) of San Pedro, CA.; bonus daughter, Debra Henderson Hines (Eddie) of Warren, AR.; siblings, Vera Smith of White Hall, AR., Gloria Albright, Curtis Schuler both of Las Vegas, NV., Lewis Thomas, Willie Lawrence Thomas both of Warren, AR.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was November 11 at St. James AME Church in Warren with Rev. Kurbe L. Newsom officiating and Rev. Jessie Washington eulogist. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Mt. Olive, AR. Arrangements by Hammons Funeral Home.
