Coach Anders commends Lumberjacks’ effort in close season opening loss to Dumas

DUMAS, Ark. – In their season opener in the Dumas Classic, the Warren Lumberjack Men’s Basketball team faced the Dumas Bobcats, ultimately falling short with a final score of 71-65. Despite the loss, the Lumberjacks displayed resilience and promise, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.

Antonio Jordan, Warren’s standout performer in 2022/23, picked up where he left off last season for Warren in the early minutes, attacking the rim and sinking Warren’s first couple of buckets. Dumas gained the upper hand however in the early minutes of the period, leading 12-8 with 4:18 remaining, thanks to a barrage of four three-pointers. Tramond Miller, a standout performer for Warren throughout the game, contributed with a transition bucket, keeping the Lumberjacks within striking distance. Despite their efforts, Warren ended the first quarter trailing 22-17.

Antonio Jordan continued to be the hammerhead of Warren’s offensive attack in the first half, opening the second quarter with a big three-pointer from distance. The Jacks managed to level the score at 28-28 with 3:30 left in the half, but Dumas regained control and headed into halftime with a narrow 37-35 lead.

Warren remained competitive in the third quarter, with Antonio Jordan once again opening the scoring with a three. Tramond Miller, a consistent bright spot for the Lumberjacks, impressed with his ball distribution and aggressive attacks to the basket. He’s one, along with Cam Burks and Jordyn Ingram, to keep an eye on this season that could lend a hand with a potential conference title run.

Entering the final quarter, Warren found themselves just one point behind at 57-56 with 5:07 left in the game. However, a brief dry spell hindered the momentum. Despite a late push, the Lumberjacks couldn’t overtake Dumas, ultimately dropping the game by the final of 71-65.

After the game, head Lumberjack coach Joseph Anders expressed his satisfaction with the team’s effort, stating, “I love the way we competed…so many positives. Looking forward to the days ahead!”

Notable Performances and Stats:

  • Antonio Jordan led the scoring with an impressive 29 points, going 3 of 3 from the line.
  • Tramond Miller contributed significantly with 21 points.
  • Jordyn Ingram added 8 points to the tally.
  • David Jordan chipped in with 7 points, making 1 of 2 free throws.

The team, comprising seven players who recently transitioned from football, showed remarkable competitiveness for a quick season opener. Warren, now 0-1 on the season, will face a talented Dermott team on Saturday at 5:45 pm at Dumas in their final game of the Dumas Classic.
