Despite late surge, Warren Women drop final game of Holiday Tournament

MONTICELLO, Ark. – In a hard-fought battle on Friday afternoon, the Warren Lumberjack Women’s Basketball team faced a tough defeat against White Hall with a final score of 45-39. The game took place in the consolation bracket of the Commercial Bank SouthEast Arkansas Holiday Tournament, with each team vying for a third place overall finish at the Tournament.

1st Quarter: Early Struggles

The first quarter saw back-and-forth action, with Bailey Miller showcasing her skills in the paint for Warren’s opening bucket. Despite her efforts, the Lumberjacks finished the opening period trailing 15-10. Charlee Wardlaw’s buzzer-beater layup provided a boost at the end of the period.

2nd Quarter: Offensive Struggles Persist

The Jacks found themselves in promising shooting positions but struggled to convert, allowing White Hall to extend their lead. Cherish Dooley’s free throw broke the scoring drought, but Warren faced a considerable halftime deficit, trailing 29-12.

3rd Quarter: Defensive Pressure Mounts

White Hall intensified their defensive efforts, causing Warren to commit a number of turnovers. Livi McKinney’s free throw ended another scoring drought, but the first successful field goal came late in the quarter from Wardlaw. The Lumberjacks entered the final quarter trailing 38-19.

4th Quarter: Late Rally Falls Short

Warren showed a resurgence in the fourth quarter, displaying a sense of aggression on both ends of the court. Wardlaw’s consecutive baskets and defensive press from Fellows and Miller narrowed the gap. The Jacks cut the lead to 10 points with three minutes remaining but ultimately fell short, losing 45-39. Breize Fellows and Bailey Miller capitalized on steals, adding late-game excitement. The team fought until the last second, with Fellows sinking a three-pointer at the buzzer.
