MONTICELLO, Ark. – In an intense showdown during the second round of the Commercial Bank SouthEast Arkansas Holiday Tournament, the Warren Lumberjack Women showcased resilience and determination against the Drew Central Pirates. However, despite their efforts, Warren ultimately fell short, succumbing to a 60-45 defeat in a hard-fought battle on Thursday.

1st Quarter: Warren Takes Early Lead

The first quarter saw the Warren Lumberjacks taking an early lead, with freshman sensation Livi McKinney making an impact on both ends of the court. The trio of freshmen, including Breize Fellows and Bailey Miller, displayed remarkable synergy, pushing the team ahead 17-16 by the end of the opening quarter.

2nd Quarter: Foul Troubles and Pirates’ Surge

The second quarter proved challenging for Warren as Drew Central seized the lead. Bailey Miller, a key contributor, had to spend significant time on the bench due to early foul trouble. Despite the setback, Allie Adair managed to make a crucial contribution with a well-timed bucket in transition. The Lumberjacks entered halftime trailing 33-24.

3rd Quarter: Wardlaw’s Standout Performance

The third quarter showcased the standout performance of Charlee Wardlaw, who not only led Warren in scoring with 15 points but also displayed defensive tenacity. Wardlaw’s efforts, including steals converted into baskets, helped Warren cut the deficit to 45-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

4th Quarter: Offensive Struggles and Late Push

As the game went to the fourth, Warren’s defense continued to pose challenges for the Pirates, but offensive struggles hampered the Jacks. Aniyah York and Charlee Wardlaw were the lone contributors from the field in the final quarter. Despite a late push that brought Warren within three points, the team ultimately fell short, concluding the game with a 60-45 loss.

With this defeat, Warren’s season record now stands at 1-4. Looking ahead, the Lumberjack Women will compete in the consolation bracket of the Holiday Tournament, facing off against White Hall tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at Drew Central to determine who takes third.

Postgame, Coach La Darian Pace expressed pride in the progress of her players, emphasizing the team’s potential. She acknowledged the hard work put in during the previous week’s practices, excitedly anticipating what the remainder of the season has in store. “I am excited about the future and what this season has to bring,” she said.
