Joey Cathey elected new WSD Board President

WARREN, Ark. – The Warren School Board convened for their monthly meeting on Monday evening, December 11, 2023, with several items on the agenda. The meeting, although relatively short, addressed important matters ranging from financial reports to the reorganization in board leadership.

The board members present at the meeting were Dr. Kerry Pennington, Shannon Gorman, Joey Cathey, President Jerry Daniels, Ana Angeles, Greg Morman, and Joel Tolefree.

One of the initial agenda items involved the adoption of the minutes from the November 2023 meeting and a thorough review of the financial report.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to a data presentation about ABC Preschool, delivered by Devin McDiarmid. The presentation included the recent ECERS(Early Childhood Environmental Ratings Scale) Audit from fall 2023. Schools must score a minimum of 5 to receive ABC funding. Previously the school scored in the 5.8 range. However, during the fall 2023 Audit, Warren’s ABC Preschool scored an overall 6.19, meaning they are eligible to apply for Better Beginnings Level 6, the highest overall star level in Arkansas.

The board proceeded to address an important resolution, approving the disclosure that would allow the School District to engage in business with Johnson’s Hardware.

The final and perhaps most pivotal agenda item involved the re-organization of the School Board. In a unanimous vote, Joey Cathey was elected as the new President of the Board. Dr. Kerry Pennington will serve as Vice President, while Shannon Gorman will take on the role of Secretary.
