The first quarter saw three Lumberjacks making their mark on the scoreboard: Aniyah York, Aaliyah Walton, and Allie Adair combined for six points in the opening period. Unfortunately, Warren found themselves trailing 13-6 at the end of the quarter.

However, the Jacks rallied in the second quarter, led by the impressive performance of Charlee Wardlaw, who erupted for 10 points. This surge narrowed the gap, and at halftime, Warren was within striking distance, trailing only 23-20.

Alyssa Calbert became a key player in the third quarter, taking advantage of Smackover’s foul trouble to make her way to the free-throw line. Calbert’s seven crucial points in the period helped Warren cut the deficit further, entering the fourth quarter with a score of 38-34.

The Lumberjacks fought fiercely in the final quarter, pushing Smackover to the limit. With seconds ticking away, Warren had a couple of chances to snatch a win, but ultimately fell short, losing by the narrowest of margins, 47-46. The result pushed the Warren Women to an early 0-1 record to start the year, but with a real sense of good things to come.

Head Warren Women’s Coach La Darian Pace was very positive about the performance when speaking to Saline River Chronicle postgame. “I am proud of the fight my girls put up in the game tonight,” she said of the close loss. “Our opening game was an improvement from our first year. We have been putting the work in and it showed tonight. We have some challenges ahead of us, but as long as they stay grounded in the fundamentals we have been stressing, then, we can ‘Make Em Believe.'”
