BANKS, Ark. – The Town of Banks issued an announcement on Friday morning, following a series of powerful storms that swept through the region, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

In a statement released by town officials, it was revealed that the city limits of Banks itself only experienced light wind, but the situation was drastically different just south of Banks, around Lanark. The aftermath in those areas was marked by numerous fallen trees, downed power lines, and extensive roof damages to homes and structures.

“Please avoid these areas if possible,” the announcement urged residents. “Traffic is down to one lane in places due to the debris and damages caused by the storms.”

The town authorities have already informed Ouachita Electric about the widespread power outages. However, with the considerable amount of damage in their service area, officials caution that it could take several days before power is fully restored to Banks and the affected regions.

“We have no power at the moment, and we’re actively working with Ouachita Electric to address the issues. In the meantime, we urge residents to take precautions and find alternate heat sources,” the statement continued. With the potential for prolonged power outages, residents are advised to make necessary arrangements for alternative heating methods.

In response to the crisis, the Town of Banks is taking proactive measures by preparing a community warming station. This facility will provide a safe and warm environment for residents who may be without power during the recovery period. Details about the warming station, including its location and operational hours, will be communicated to the public as soon as they are finalized.

Emergency services are actively working in affected areas to clear debris, assess damages, and ensure the safety of residents. Authorities are coordinating efforts to expedite power restoration and provide necessary assistance to those affected by the storms.

Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to local news updates, follow official announcements from the Town of Banks, and adhere to any further safety instructions issued by authorities in the coming days. The community is urged to come together in support of those affected, offering assistance and solidarity during this challenging time.
