Lady Jacks battle Hamburg to the wire

WARREN, Ark. – In a nail-biting encounter at Lumberjack Arena on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the Warren Lady Jacks faced off against Hamburg in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The final score saw Hamburg narrowly escaping with a 51-49 victory over the resilient Lady Jacks.

1st Quarter: Early Struggles for Warren

The game tipped off with Warren making an early impact through some nice defensive work, thanks to a Charlee Wardlaw steal and layup, quickly followed by a jumper from Aniyah York. However, Hamburg found sucess from beyond the arc, taking a 22-10 lead by the end of the first quarter. Livi McKinney’s relentless effort on the boards earned Warren some crucial points.

2nd Quarter: McKinney’s Resilience

Livi McKinney continued to shine in the second quarter, securing two consecutive rebounds that led to baskets. Wardlaw added a three from the corner, but Warren faced a scoring drought soon after. Just before halftime, Bailey Miller’s jumper broke the silence, yet Hamburg maintained a substantial 33-17 lead.

3rd Quarter: Warren Mounts a Comeback

The third quarter witnessed Warren staging a comeback, initiated by Breize Fellows’ three-pointer. Wardlaw cut the deficit further with a drive in the lane, providing an assist to Fellows for another three. Wardlaw herself contributed with an additional three-pointer. McKinney’s bank shot ended the quarter with Hamburg still in the lead, albeit by a narrow margin of 39-35.

4th Quarter: Warren Comes So Close

Charlee Wardlaw put on another excellent display in the fourth quarter, making a driving run to the basket to bring Warren within one point. A back-and-forth battle ensued, with Wardlaw hitting a crucial three to tie the game at 44-44 with 3:30 left. Fellows added another three to put the Lady Jacks up by three, but Hamburg managed to secure the win with late points, including a few clutch free throws, finishing the game 51-49.

With the loss the Lady Jacks moved to 2-10 overall and 1-5 in the 8-4A. They get a night off before hosting Monticello in Warren Friday at 5:30 p.m.
