New Edinburg Community Updates: Great AR Junk Hunt, Volunteer of the Year, and exciting events ahead

The following are the complete minutes from the January 2024 Re-New-ing Edinburg Committee meeting:

Roger McClellan, President, called the meeting to order and minutes of the previous meeting were passed out plus previously emailed to members.  Motion made by Trenna Kemp, seconded by Shelia Towery to accept minutes as presented.

Linda Hornaday presented the financial statement and it will be filed for audit.

Roger advised the members that the Great AR Junk Hunt has been expanded to four days, March 7, 8, 9 and 10, which would include Sunday.  The group will participate in the hunt; however, it will not participate on Sunday.  In order to prepare for the hunt, Christmas décor will be removed from the windows at Stewart’s Store on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. and additional items will be priced.

Kathy Waldrop was selected the re-New-ing Edinburg volunteer of the year and a volunteer appreciation potluck has been rescheduled to February 20.  Everyone is encouraged to invite local volunteers or community members that would be interested in participating in the group’s activities.  The menu will be casseroles and salads.  Trenna Kemp volunteered to coordinate the event.

Kickstart Cleveland County will recognize all county volunteers at a reception on January 30 at which time Dr. Hunter Goodman will present a program on Grant Writing.  The event will be held at Bethel No. 1 Family Life Center in Rison and everyone is invited to attend.

New business on the agenda included the New Edinburg Community Center barbeque scheduled for March 9.  Shelia Towery made a motion, seconded by Brenda Triplett, to hold an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to noon.  Motion passed.  The group will once again have snow cones, cupcakes, games, candy and an egg hunt.  

The NE All School Reunion is scheduled for April 27.  A discussion was held concerning decorations, name tags, parking and general set up for the event.  Everyone is asked to invite others to attend the event.  Doreys of Sheridan will be catering the event, serving catfish and chicken with all the trimmings.

Roger reminded those present that he and Trenna were members of the Cleveland County Fair board and encouraged everyone to support additional county activities.  The board’s upcoming events in the county include First Sunday lunch at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds on February 4 with food served from 11:00-1:00 and take out plates are available.  Jake’s Day will be held February 3 also at the fairgrounds.  February 17 the Republican Committee is holding a “Meet, Greet & Eat” with Iverson Jackson as a special guest and the Homesteading Conference will be held at the fairgrounds on March 23.  The Backwoods Poultry Show will be at the fairgrounds on March 9.

Prior to dismissal of the meeting, a brief discussion was held concerning the Easter Egg hunt.  Shelia Towery made a motion to change the date to Sunday, March 24 from 2-4, seconded by Trenna Kemp.  Motion passed.  Motion was made by Shelia Towery to adjourn, seconded by Don Triplett.  Motion passed.
