Warren Streets still passable Wednesday, but caution still urged

WARREN, Ark. – Warren Mayor Gregg Reep provided a comprehensive update on the city’s street conditions on the third day following the winter storm that hit on Sunday and Monday. Despite challenges, Mayor Reep reassured residents that efforts were underway to address the slippery roadways.

“Streets are still passable, but even more slippery than yesterday,” Mayor Reep remarked, following last night’s extreme cold. He urged drivers to exercise extra caution while navigating the city. Despite the challenges, the Mayor emphasized that everything was still accessible.

To combat the icy conditions, the city has collaborated with private contractors to conduct blading on some streets Wednesday. The focus is on removing layers where the ice pack is most severe. Mayor Reep expressed optimism as temperatures are expected to rise above freezing later in the day, and the combination of temperatures and sunlight is anticipated to improve the street situation.

“We’re doing some sand work, and we anticipate that the afternoon weather may help us out,” Mayor Reep stated, highlighting the proactive measures taken by the city to address the aftermath of the winter storm.

In a morning briefing with the Warren Police Department, Mayor Reep confirmed that no significant vehicle accidents had been reported around town.

Regarding city services, Mayor Reep informed the public that City Hall is open, and both Police and Fire departments are fully staffed and on duty. Street crews are actively working, focusing initially on major thoroughfares like Myrtle and Etheridge Streets. However, efforts are being made to assess and address conditions throughout the entire city.

“We want to pick up garbage on Thursday, but we are going to have to wait to see if conditions allow it. We should know more this afternoon,” Mayor Reep added.
