Community volunteers honored and future events planned at Re-New-ing Edinburg February Meeting

The following are the complete minutes from the February 20, 2024 Re-New-ing Edinburg monthly meeting:

Prior to the business meeting, community volunteers were treated to a potluck meal in appreciation of their service.  Kathy Waldrop was introduced as the Re-New-ing Edinburg volunteer of 2023 for the organization of the Easter Egg hunt plus participation in various other group events.  Suzanne and Randy Wagnon plus Ouita Jarrett were recognized for their twenty years of putting up the Christmas lights on the utility poles during Christmas, Fire Chief James Gill and firefighters Kaleb Parker, Sondra Parker, Keith Parker, and Chris Talley were recognized for their service to the community and Clara Parkman was recognized for her clean-up of the two miles of Highway 8 through New Edinburg in conjunction with the AR Hwy Dept Litter Free program.  Brit Talent, owner of the Cleveland County Herald, was also a special guest.

Martha Talano, Vice President, welcomed those in attendance and called the meeting to order.  The minutes were passed out to those present and motion was made by Larry Waldrop, seconded by Linda Hornaday, to accept the minutes as presented.  Linda Hornaday gave a financial report.

Under old business, the Great AR Junk Hunt is scheduled for March 7, 8, 9 and 10th and the group will be participating Thursday-Saturday, but will not participate on Sunday.  A work day was scheduled for Wednesday, February 21 at 9 a.m. in order to further unpack and price items.

The NE Community Center will hold a fish fry fundraiser on Saturday, March 8 and several from the group will be volunteering at the event.

The annual Easter Egg hunt will be held Sunday, March 24 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.  with a backup rain date of Saturday, March 30.  Additionally, various games including a cupcake walk, egg spoon race, and bean bag toss will be organized.  Children 12 and under are invited to attend and information will be posted on the face book page.

The New Edinburg All School Reunion is scheduled for April 27.  A brief discussion was held concerning decorations, lunch tickets, etc.  Lunch tickets will go on sale the beginning of March with catering by Dorey’s Catfish of Sheridan.

Motion was made by Trenna Kemp, seconded by Kaleb Parker, to hold a game night at the community center on April 12 at 6 p.m.  Motion passed.

Additional events scheduled throughout the county include the annual Jake’s Day event on March 2, First Sunday lunch on March 3, the Backwoods Poultry Show on March 9, and the Arkansas Homesteading Conference on March 23; all of which will be held at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds.

Motion was made by Larry Waldrop to adjourn, seconded by David Kemp.  Motion passed.  The next meeting will be held March 19 at 6 p.m.
