Jacks book State Tourney ticket with Regional first round win over Arkadelphia

NASHVILLE, Ark. – The Warren Lumberjacks secured a 4A State Tournament birth Thursday by defeating the Arkadelphia Badgers 67-61 in the first round of the 4A South Regional Basketball Tournament in Nashville, led by another massively impressive performance by Jacks Tramond Miller and Antonio Jordan, who combined for 55 points on the night.

1st Quarter

The game ignited with fervor as Warren’s Neon’dre Thomas set the pace, knocking down a three-pointer to open the scoring, quickly followed by a fadeaway jumper from Antonio Jordan. Tramond Miller continued his excellent defensive play that we’ve seen all year with a steal and subsequent layup, establishing Warren’s early lead. Miller continued his dominance, sinking multiple shots, including a crucial three-pointer at the end of the period, propelling Warren to a commanding 20-8 lead by the end of the quarter.

2nd Quarter

Despite Warren’s strong start, Arkadelphia mounted a fierce comeback in the second quarter. Warren’s David Jordan contributed with a crucial inside bucket to help tamper the Badger’s push, while Thomas added finesse with a well-executed floater. However, Arkadelphia’s pursuit narrowed Warren’s lead to just three points, with the scoreboard reading 30-27 in favor of Warren at halftime.

3rd Quarter

The third quarter witnessed intense back-and-forth action, with both teams refusing to relent. Antonio Jordan put in some hard-earned minutes on the boards and knocked down a fadeaway jumper near the midway point, but Arkadelphia surged ahead, seizing their first lead of the game at 34-33. Nevertheless, Warren displayed resilience, matching Arkadelphia basket for basket to keep pace.

4th Quarter

As the tension mounted in the final quarter, Antonio Jordan stepped up for Warren, opening with a pivotal three-pointer. With five minutes remaining, Arkadelphia held a narrow 54-51 lead, intensifying the battle. However, a crucial steal by Lumberjack Colton Steen ignited Warren’s momentum, leading to a game-changing transition layup by Miller, swinging the lead back in Warren’s favor at 57-56. Warren capitalized on their newfound momentum, with late-game heroics from David Jordan and clutch free throws from Miller, ultimately clinching the hard-earned victory with a final score of 67-61.

Warren’s triumph propels their overall record to an impressive 13-4 and secures their place in the upcoming 4A State Tournament. Next, the Lumberjacks are set to face the 8-4A Conference Champion Little Rock-Mills on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the second round of Regionals, in what promises to be another exhilarating matchup. The two teams have faced each other twice this season, splitting the results.

Reflecting on the hard-fought victory, Coach Correy Muldrew expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance. “Huge win for our ball club,” he told Saline River Chronicle. “Arkadelphia is a good team that presented some problems that we had to adjust to. We made the changes and team executed the game plan.” Muldrew stated that “everyone still playing is a good team.” In reference to Friday’s meeting with Mills, Muldrew said the Jacks are “looking forward to competing and representing Warren.
