Warren School Board meets to conduct February business

WARREN, Ark. – The Warren School Board convened yesterday at the Warren School District Administration Offices for its regular meeting, presided over by President Joey Cathey. The meeting saw the attendance of board members Jerry Daniels, Dr. Pennington, Greg Morman, Shannon Gorman, and Ana Angeles.

The meeting began with a closed expulsion hearing followed by the call to order by President Cathey. Minutes from the previous meeting were swiftly approved, setting the stage for the day’s agenda.

The financial report was presented and subsequently approved.

During an executive session, the board accepted the resignations of four teachers, effective at the end of the school term.

One of the significant approvals of the evening was the proposal to apply for a 21st Century Learning Grant.

Additionally, Superintendent Bryan Cornish was authorized to explore various options for food service for the District.

A resolution was passed to request a waiver for the commencement of the 2024 school year on August 12.

In a bid to streamline administrative processes, the board also approved a change in meeting dates to the 2nd Monday of each month at 7:00 pm.

The 2023-24 revised school calendar was unanimously approved.

A petition for the transfer of students from the Warren School District to the Hermitage School District was also approved.

In a heartfelt moment, Superintendent Cornish presented a plaque to Jerry Daniels, acknowledging his remarkable 19-year tenure as Warren School Board President. Daniels’ dedication and leadership have left an indelible mark on the district’s educational landscape.

Superintendent Cornish concluded the meeting by announcing that the last day of school for the academic year will be on May 27.

With all agenda items addressed, the meeting was adjourned.
