The Lumberjacks (5-2, 2-2) picked up a run in the bottom of the first when Ervin Rivera knocked in Nathan Spears and added another in the second frame when Jackson Denton drove in Jude Cathey on an RBI fielder’s choice to take a 2-0 edge over the Bulldogs (2-5, 1-2).

Pitcher Kolby Pope kept the visitors off the scoreboard in the top of the third as well before the Jacks recorded a very fruitful bottom half. Bryson Harris was hit by a pitch before five straight hits by the Orange and Black. Rivera doubled home Harris, then AJ Jordan drove in Rivera with an RBI base knock to make the score 4-0. The hit parade continued with a run-scoring single by Ren Reep, followed by an RBI two-bagger from Jude Cathey. Tucker McDiarmid singled to cap the five straight hits and Cathey scored on a fielder’s choice by Pope to push the score to 7-0.

Star City found its only success at the plate in the top of the fourth when the team registered three of its four hits on the day. Those hits and a Lumberjack error led to two runs to get the Bulldogs within 7-2. However, neither team found much success the rest of the contest. Warren had a hit and walk in the bottom of the fourth, while Star City had a runner reach on an error in the sixth inning for the only other baserunners of the game.

Pope earned the win on the mound for the Orange and Black by pitching a complete game. The junior hurler only allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with nine strikeouts against one walk.

The Jacks outhit Star City 12 to four with Rivera leading the way with a 3-for-4 night that included a double and two RBIs. Jordan and Cathey both tallied two hits and one RBI apiece, while Cathey scored a team-best two runs. Pope, Denton, and Reep all had one hit and one RBI each, while McDiarmid and Spears added a single to round out the hit total.

The Lumberjacks now have eight days off before going to the Joe T. Robinson Spring Break Tournament. Warren is scheduled to take on Beebe in its first game at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 21.
