Warren School District Superintendent Bryan Cornish Presents to Rotary

The Rotary Club of Warren met Tuesday for its weekly meeting inside First Methodist Church. Junior Rotarians were not present due to a school field trip, but the group heard from Warren School District Superintendent and Rotarian Bryan Cornish. Cornish began by listing some demographics of the school district and transitioned into different updates about the different school buildings. He mentioned the new Eastside Elementary and how satisfied they are with it and also touched on the students being back in the high school after the fire a couple of years ago. He added that the auxiliary gym, where the fire originated, is finally finished with a new floor and basketball goals. They are still awaiting the insurance settlement from the fire. He also added that the high school won a $150,000 grant from Jostens through a video the EAST program made that will help reinvigorate the building. He also touched on the transportation building at the bus barn that caught fire and that they are making progress with a new office there. Additionally, he talked a bit about the new arena and how it was nice to not have to rush everything like last year. Cornish gave a great review to the new Mainline Health Clinic that is at Eastside for part of the day and then at SEACBEC for the rest. It’s been a huge success and they have had a lot of visits, including dental and behavioral health, which has been very beneficial to the district. He also talked about exploring a possible food service vendor for the district and told the crowd that the standardized assessments had changed again with testing actually getting underway this week. The superintendent stated the district is looking at hiring additional school resource offices for the other buildings as they only have one at the high school currently. He finished by listing off some different academic awards each school in the district won last year and answered a few questions. The Rotary Club will not have a regular meeting next week and instead will have a work day at Rotary Park downtown. The club also will not meet on Tuesday, March 26 due to Holy Week. The next regular meeting will be on Tuesday, April 2.
