Maylon Rice, a feature contributor for the Saline River Chronicle, recently attended the award ceremony for the 2024 Arkansas Turkey and Quail Stamp artwork winners. His exclusive report provides insights into the talented artists and their captivating works.

The 2024 Arkansas Turkey Stamp was claimed by Chris Goins, pictured above third from the left in the ceremony photo. As he received the 1st place prize from Palo Carson of the National Wild Turkey Federation, Goins’s winning artwork depicted three hens and a pair of gobblers set in a woodland scene with rays of sunshine filtering through the trees. Notably, Goins had previously won the 2023 quail art stamp and secured 2nd place in the 2023 wild turkey art stamp competition, showcasing his consistent artistic excellence.

Dan Andrews, hailing from Denver, Colorado, emerged as the victor for the 2024 Arkansas Quail Stamp. In the ceremony image, Andrews stands alongside Lawrence McElroy of Historic Cane Hill, Clinton Johnson from the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, and Ryan Parker representing Quail Forever Arkansas. Andrews’s winning artwork features a captivating scene of a male and female bobwhite quail flushed in front of a hunter and his trusty retriever in a picturesque country field setting.

The photos from the ceremony, captured by Maylon Rice for Saline River Chronicle, showcase the joy and pride of the winners as they receive recognition for their exceptional talent. Both Goins’s and Andrews’s artwork will soon be available for purchase, including stamps and associated art items, on the Game & Fish Commission website starting in mid-June.
