Dr. Bob Smalling appears before Warren Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Warren met for its weekly gathering Tuesday, April 30 inside the Fellowship Hall at First Methodist Church. Junior Rotarian Jacob Puterbaugh from Warren High School gave his speech to kick the program off. Puterbaugh was the last Junior Rotarian of the year and the Rotary Club wishes all of them the best in their future endeavors.

Rotarian Dr. Bob Smalling took the stage next as he presented his own program to the club. Dr. Smalling is in his 50th year as an optometrist and took some time to tell the club about some of the changes his profession has seen over that time frame. He touched on his background which included graduating from Arkansas State in 1970 and the Southern College of Optometry in 1974. He’s been in private practice at Warren since 1980 with a stint at the Ireland Army Hospital at Ft. Knox, Kentucky from 1974-76 and private practice in Conway, Ark., from 1976-80 prior. Dr. Smalling spoke about different types of eye problems before going into the differences in technology he’s seen in dealing with cataracts, glaucoma, and contact lens from 1974 until the present day. He ended the presentation by taking a few questions.
