Warren Baseball stays hot with 21-9 triumph at McGehee

MCGEHEE, Ark. (4/4/24) – Four innings of four or more runs helped the Warren baseball squad cruise to a 21-9 victory in non-conference play at McGehee Thursday evening.

The Lumberjacks have won four in a row to run their record to 10-4 on the season while the loss for the Owls moves them to 3-8 on the season. Warren outhit McGehee 12-4 during the game as both teams combined for 27 walks to lead to the high-scoring affair.

The Owls held the Jacks scoreless in the top of the first, the only frame that Warren didn’t score in, and came in and put two runs on the scoreboard to move ahead 2-0. However, the Orange and Black plated seven runs in the top of the second before McGehee got one back in the bottom half to set the score at 7-3. 

Both teams scored four runs each in the third inning to make the score 11-7 before another four-run frame put Warren on top 15-7. The home team fought back though with two more runs to get within 15-9. The Lumberjacks scored two in the fifth and four in the sixth to go ahead 21-9 and held the Owls scoreless in both frames to claim the victory.

Tristan Weaver started on the mound for the Jacks and lasted 1 2/3 innings before Ren Reep relieved him for an inning. Tucker McDiarmid threw 2/3 of an inning before Nathan Spears closed it out. Spears worked 2 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings to finish the ballgame with six punchouts and two walks.

Reep led Warren offensively with a 3-for-5 effort, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Jackson Denton also filled up the scorebook with two hits, four RBIs, and two runs scored. Bryson Harris tied Denton with four RBIs in the game, while Ervin Rivera, AJ Jordan, and Jude Cathey all recorded two hits apiece. Cathey led the team with four runs scored, while Kolby Pope added three more as every player in the lineup scored in the contest.

The Lumberjacks return to 4A-8 conference play with a showdown against cross-river rival Monticello on Friday, April 5. First pitch from the Warren Sports Complex is set for 5 p.m.
