Woman found guilty of abuse of power while serving on the Jersey Rural Fire Department

A Bradley County woman, Sheila Norrell Loomis, age 60 of Banks, was recently handed down a sentence of three years supervised probation, $5,211 restitution, and a fine of $2,000 from a single charge stemming from a felony case filed in September 2020 for abuse of office during her time with the Jersey Rural Fire Department.

Loomis was found guilty by the Court in a bench trial under Circuit Judge Quincey Ross for the single felony charge in relation to a financial incident which occurred in her capacity as a public servant with the Jersey Rural Fire Department.

According to the case files, “on or about January 1, 2019, through March 15, 2020,” Loomis used her position with the Jersey Rural Fire Department to misappropriate funds from the Department in excess of $500. The offense is a Class D felony.

Loomis was sentenced to pay restitution in the amount of $5,211.00 and a fine of $2,000. Court costs are to be paid on top of the restitution and fine. She has to pay the fees in installments of $250 per month.
