Mike Miller recently attended the Arkansas Environmental Training Academy for Solid Waste (Level A) in Camden, Arkansas. The Arkansas Environmental Training Academy is the designated Environmental Training Center for the State of Arkansas and is a training division of Southern Arkansas University Tech in Camden, Arkansas. Mr. Miller is the Recycling Coordinator for the City of Warren and manages the city’s transfer facility. He will need to attend the Apprentice program for two more years to complete the program. This process is required by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The City of Warren operates a trash transfer station on Hwy 278 West. DEQ requires a licensed operator to be onsite during normal operation. The Warren transfer station is not open to the public. Collected garbage for the city is hauled to the facility and compacted into larger containers and then transported to a landfill in Union County. Mr. Miller’s certification is part of the City of Warren’s requirements to remain in compliance with State of Arkansas regulations for solid waste management.
